Kos Harbour, 1939 to now

Photographs from the boat

Everything here was taken on the Captain Tasos, on the water off Kos Town or on the quay where we tie up. No stock photographs, no borrowed boats.

Out on the Aegean

Three hours of open water, a few hundred metres to a couple of miles off Kos Town, depending on the wind and where the fish are.

On board

Twelve people at most, so there is room to hold a rod properly. Some guests have fished for years, others learn on the day.

What comes up

Seabream, seabass, pork fish, parrotfish. Whatever you catch is yours to keep, and Noah’s Ark on the harbour will cook it for you at no charge.

2016 to 2018

The same boat, ten years ago

These are phone photographs, taken by the family in the ordinary run of the work. A fish worth showing on the way back in, the boat out of the water for its yearly coat of paint, the hand-painted board that told people what we did before there was a website. Tasos is in several of them. The boat you step onto today is the boat in these pictures.

Every week, from the boat

The rest is on Instagram

Alex posts the day’s catch, the weather and the odd dolphin. It is the quickest way to see what the sea is doing before you come.
